Hello! Thank you for visiting my site. I would like to tell you a little about myself. My name is Alison Sower, I am 39 years old and found massage many years ago in the early 90's after I was rear ended on a highway in Wyoming by a semi truck during a bad snow storm. Massage helped me manage my pain and soften my tight muscles. More recently, in about 2003, I became a member of Massage Envy it was great because I was able to get regular massage on a monthly basis and found it very affordable. I have been in the restaurant industry since age 17, and got into management at 20. I really appreciated my massages due to the stress and long hours of my job. Following in both my mother and fathers footsteps, I had always longed to be in the health care field and one day while getting my massage thought "how great would it be to work in this atmosphere of serenity and help people like me to feel better". So in 2008 I decided to attend school in Tempe Arizona at the Arizona School of Massage Therapy a Steiner Group. I received 800+ hours of training including beginning my Clinical Internship in October of that year. My training consisted of classes in Anatomy/Physiology, Cadaver Lab, and Pathology, as well as Certification for First Aid and CPR. I was taught both Eastern and Western massage modalities Swedish, Deep Tissue, Reflexology, Acupressure, Cranial Sacral, Injury, Sports massage and stretching, Shiatsu, Trigger Point, Russian, Hydrotherapy, as well as training in Structural Bodywork, Movement and Assessment Techniques. I have been so pleased with the training I received through my school, I feel confident it prepared me well to have clients of my own. I am a professional member of the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) and am Nationally Certified (NCTMB) to work anywhere in the U.S. by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB). I am licensed in the state of Missouri. I moved to Columbia in the summer of 2009 when my husband accepted a job with the City of Columbia as an Engineer. I started working up north at Salon 4 & Spa, 2 miles North of I-70 off Rangeline Road in September 2009, then in December opened my own private practice, a massage suite I share with a few other local therapists. I have always worked hard to earn my money and know that spending wisely is important, I believe in a great massage at a great price so I wanted to make massage affordable to everyone while offering the same quality and service you find at high end spas. I believe I have achieved just that, my private practice is a quiet relaxing environment and is located near downtown on Walnut St between Garth and Providence just behind the Salvation Army Thrift Store. I look forward to seeing you now at that location.
(Thank you Darlene and all the patrons of Salon 4 & Spa for giving me a start in Columbia. Salon 4 & Spa is a full service salon offering, haircuts/style, color, facials, massage, pedis and manis, please call 573-449-2200 for an appointment and gift certificate sales.)
